FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Rye Meadow Ranch a petting zoo?

No. Rye Meadow Ranch is a real, working cattle ranch and agritourism operation. Our goal is to provide meaningful, personal experiences while always prioritizing the health, safety, and welfare of our animals.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes suitable for walking on grass and uneven ground. Since you'll be interacting with live farm animals, there is always a chance of encountering dirt, mud, hay, or manure. We recommend wearing clothes you don't mind getting a little dusty.

Will I get dirty?

Maybe a little—and that's part of ranch life! Our cattle love attention and may rub against you, and farm animals don't always operate on our schedules. We regularly clean and maintain our cattle areas, but authentic ranch experiences can include dirt, hay, and muddy conditions depending on the weather.

Are your cows friendly?

Our cattle are handled regularly and enjoy interacting with guests. However, they are still animals and may behave unpredictably. We ask that guests follow all instructions provided by ranch staff and treat our animals with kindness and respect.

Are the cows miniature?

Yes! Rye Meadow Ranch is home to miniature Highland cattle and Highland cattle crosses. Our herd includes a variety of colors, personalities, and sizes, allowing guests to experience the beauty and charm of these unique cattle.

While smaller than standard Highlands, they are still livestock and should always be treated with care and respect.

Our cattle are handled regularly and enjoy interacting with guests, but they are living animals with individual personalities and needs. Some are more outgoing than others, and every visit is unique. The health, comfort, and well-being of our animals always come first.

Are children welcome?

Absolutely! Families and children are welcome. Children must remain under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian at all times.

Can we feed, pet, or brush the cows?

Absolutely! Every private ranch visit includes opportunities to pet and brush our cattle and enjoy meaningful interactions with the herd.

The health, comfort, and well-being of our animals always come first, and interactions may be adjusted based on the needs and personalities of the cattle. Because animals are living creatures with individual preferences, we cannot guarantee specific interactions, but our goal is to provide every guest with a memorable and authentic ranch experience.

Can I hold a calf?

We love sharing our animals with guests, but for the safety and well-being of our cattle, we cannot guarantee that guests will be able to hold calves. Interactions are based on the animals' age, comfort, and individual personalities.

Every visit includes opportunities to pet and brush our cattle, but the health and comfort of our animals always come first.

Can I bring treats for the cows?

No. To protect the health and safety of our animals, guests may not bring outside treats or food. Any approved treats or feed will be provided by Rye Meadow Ranch.

Can I request a specific cow?

While we will do our best to accommodate requests, the health and well-being of our animals always come first. Because animals are living creatures with individual personalities and needs, we cannot guarantee specific interactions, poses, behaviors, or participation.

Can I bring my dog or other pets?

No. For the safety and comfort of our animals, guests, and visiting pets, outside animals are not permitted on the property.

Can we bring additional guests?

Please ensure that each guest in your party has a ticket when booking. If your group size changes after booking, please reach out to us as soon as possible so we can prepare accordingly. Advance notice helps us provide the best experience possible for both our guests and animals.

Why does each guest need a ticket?

Each guest attending a private ranch visit must have a ticket. Our experiences are intentionally kept personal, and we carefully prepare for each visit based on the number of guests attending.

A great deal of time, care, and preparation goes into every experience, including grooming and handling our livestock, preparing guest areas, cleaning and maintaining pens, and ensuring supplies, treats, and materials are ready so that each guest can have the best experience possible.

If your group size changes after booking, please reach out to us as soon as possible. Advance notice helps us prepare appropriately and continue providing the personalized, high-quality experience that Rye Meadow Ranch is known for.

Are visits private?

Yes. Ranch visits are private and scheduled by appointment to provide a relaxed, personalized experience for your group.

Can I arrive early?

Please arrive no more than 5–10 minutes before your scheduled visit. Since experiences are private, arriving too early may interfere with another guest's experience or with ranch preparations.

Can I stay longer?

To ensure the comfort of our animals and respect the schedules of other guests, visits begin and end at their scheduled times.

What happens if it rains?

Ranch visits may continue during light rain or typical Florida weather conditions. However, visits may be postponed due to lightning, severe storms, excessive heat, flooding, or unsafe conditions. If Rye Meadow Ranch cancels a visit, guests may choose to reschedule or receive a full refund.

Can I take photos?

Absolutely! Guests are encouraged to take photos and videos for personal use during their visit.

For professional photography sessions, Rye Meadow Ranch has partnered exclusively with Dakin Images. Dakin Images is the only photographer authorized to conduct professional photography sessions on the ranch. Outside professional photographers are not permitted without prior written approval.

Is there a restroom available?

At this time, restroom facilities are not yet available. Our new barn and guest experience area are currently under construction and will include a restroom in the future.

For now, hand wash and sanitizing stations are available for guests, and we encourage visitors to plan accordingly before arriving. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to grow and improve Rye Meadow Ranch.

Are there bugs?

Yes. We are located in Florida, and insects and wildlife are a natural part of outdoor life. Rye Meadow Ranch utilizes routine pest control and fire ant treatments and maintains clean cattle areas, but guests should expect mosquitoes, flies, bees, spiders, and other common Florida critters.

We recommend applying sunscreen and insect repellent before your visit, especially during warmer months.

Can I wear sandals?

Closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended. Guests will be walking on grass and uneven terrain and may encounter dirt, mud, hay, and manure.

Can I bring food or drinks?

Absolutely! Since ranch visits are outdoor experiences in Florida, guests are welcome and encouraged to bring bottled water and other non-alcoholic beverages to stay comfortable and hydrated.

Guests with medical conditions, dietary needs, or young children are welcome to bring snacks or beverages as needed. We want all guests to feel comfortable and enjoy their experience.

Outside food intended for meals or picnics, alcoholic beverages, and treats for the animals are not permitted.

Can I smoke or vape?

No. Smoking and vaping are prohibited anywhere on the property for the safety of our guests, animals, and dry pasture areas.

Can I bring a stroller or wheelchair?

Our property consists of grass and uneven terrain. While many guests successfully use strollers and mobility aids, conditions may be challenging depending on weather and ground conditions.

What if someone in my group is sick?

If anyone in your group is experiencing fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or other contagious symptoms, please contact us to reschedule your visit.

Do you guarantee cuddles, specific animals, or certain photos?

Because animals are living creatures with individual personalities and needs, we cannot guarantee specific interactions, cuddles, poses, behaviors, or participation. Every visit is unique, and our animals' comfort and well-being always come first.
